Zac Efron nearly signed up to sing for Simon Cowell - except the teen heartthrob did not take him seriously.
American Idol judge Cowell was desperate to sign up High School Musical star Zac for a record contract because of his singing voice, boyish good looks and huge fan following.
Zac explains, "Simon Cowell is a great guy. We were backstage at American Idol and he just came up and we talked about an idea - it wasn't like 'Hey, sign here. So needless to say I did not do it. I'm not sure it was serious."
High School Musical’s Zac Efron may have left his Sydney fans gasping when he was spotted sunbathing with his co-actor girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens in the Harbour city.
The 20-year-old, who arrived in the city ahead of the Disney franchise’s premiere, was reportedly seen flexing his muscles while his love interest and ‘High School Musical 3′ co-star Ashley Tisdale clenched hands during a short water taxi ride back to their hotel.
Dubbed as “the new American heart throb” by the Rolling Stone magazine, Efron is said to have insisted on categorising himself as a ’serious actor’ despite his young appeal.
The actor-singer also scored brownie points when he impressed fans with his voice in the film version of the Broadway musical ‘Hairspray’, reports the Daily Telegraph.
As his High School Musical 3 co-stars Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale held each other's hand during a short water taxi ride back to their city hotel, Efron instead flexed his leading man muscles.
Jetting into town ahead of tonight's red carpet premiere of the Disney franchise which has made them all millionaires, the trio lunched like the stars at A-list eatery Catalina.
After a long-haul flight from Los Angeles and with the glittering Harbour beckoning, Efron, 21, shook off the jet lag - and some of this clothes - as he basked in the sun, if not the paparazzi attention.
He'd started out his trip from a CBD hotel to Rose Bay rugged up in a long-sleeve buttoned-down shirt and beanie, before stripping down to his T-shirt to tan.
The flash of flesh - as family-friendly as it could be - sent Sydney's celebrity snappers into a frenzy, knowing every inch of this actor sells to entertainment media around the world.

After getting his big break in High School Musical - this generation's Grease - Efron has continued to impress with his musical talents in the film adaptation of Hair Spray.
He is tipped to reprise Kevin Bacon's role in a 2010 remake of Footloose.
While his slate has remained squeaky clean, he admirably stood by his co-star and current girlfriend Hudgens, when nude photos of the teen were leaked online.

Surviving that scandal, the marketable couple were spotted together in their Sydney hotel room yesterday.
Whether eager to take in more of the scenery or sneak a cigarette, Efron was snapped taking the suite's window grill apart in a bid to open the window.
Unsuccessful, the pair settled with breathing in the view before heading out to lunch.
They will have little time to luxuriate today, with a press call scheduled this morning, then the George St Greater Union premiere tonight.
Zac Efron says he's not "ballsy" enough to strip naked onstage.
The High School Musical star was rumored to be replacing Daniel Radcliffe in Broadway play Equus, in which the lead character does a full-frontal nude scene.
But Efron - who is dating his HSM co-star Vanessa Hudgens - says he doesn't have the confidence to bare his body in front of a live audience.
He says, "Daniel was very ballsy. Oh wow, that is the wrong choice of word for that! He is very smart. I guess that was the fastest way to do it.
"But I don't know if I would do something edgy for the sake of doing something edgy, I think as I mature, so will my roles. I think it will come with time. I'm not going to do anything drastic."
